Saturday saw the launch of Five artists show in a byre. About 70 people, children and dogs attended, from farmers in boots to ladies in finery. Tea and homemade shortbread was consumed in quantity, with an especially captive audience for Elaine Gaston’s poetry reading from her debut collection The Lie of the Land. Rory Shearer’s Townland columns were the starting point for curating the show, so I was delighted when Elaine read Early Map, which speaks of her childhood landscape in North Antrim.
The work was selected from friends old and new, all using natural materials in and from the local landscape. It has settled into the byre very comfortably indeed, and I look forward to welcoming more visitors over the coming weeks.
